Fore Abbey

Saint Fechin founded this Christian monastery in 630 AD.It is effectively the last trace of the once powerful Benedictine order in Ireland, investing the site with historical importance. The size and location of the ruins, however, will be more important to most visitors.

Saint Fechin founded this Christian monastery in 630 AD. Before his death by yellow plague in 660 there were 300 monks and 2000 students living there.between 771 and 1169 Fore abbey was burnt 12 times . It is effectively the last trace of the once powerful Benedictine order in Ireland, investing the site with historical importance.

The size and location of the ruins, however, will be more important to most visitors. Both are impressive and make for an ideal photo opportunity.
