Colours of Winter at Lough Owel Lodge, Mullingar 2014
It is that time of year again and we are all slowing down getting ready for the winter.
Wonderful and Interesting guests at Lough Owel Lodge
Our season was a good one and we met some new friends as well as welcoming back old and treasured ones. There were many great stories and I am always amazed at the wide variety of lives that people live. We are very lucky that they come to our door.
Some people are just passing through while others linger a little longer perhaps to search for their ancestors and to walk the land of their family .
Tracing your family history – A lough Owel Lodge true story…..
Two such Argentinian gentleman came to stay with me this summer ,they had availed of our genealogy service provided by Helen Kelly our resident Genealogist who did an initial search of their families ancestry. We were all very excited when it turned out they were related ,distant cousins .
“For me it was something very strong to know the origin my family. To meet me with Mick. To have known part of the history of that country, suffered, brave. I have been reading some things about the history of Ireland since we returned. Today, Ireland is in my heart.”
They have since made contact and are getting to know one another .
Now I will close our bed and breakfast till the spring, the farm will get very busy and we have the prospect of new life on the farm to look forward too. Spring will come around quickly and the preparation for next year’s guests will begin. There is never a dull moment.
