Great excitement at Lough Owel Lodge last week as we prepared to go into Mullingar to see the Grand National-winning horse.
Winner of the Crabbie’s Grand National at Aintree, Rule the World paraded through Mullingar with his trainer, Mouse Morris, jockey David Mullins and the owner Michael O’Leary (of Ryanair fame) and his family.
The excitement would have been greater if I had placed a bet.
Horse won at 33-1 I nearly cried!!!!!
Hundreds of people have turned out in Mullingar to greet Aintree Grand National winner, Rule the World.
Rule the World – with 19-year-old jockey David Mullins in the saddle won the National yesterday – returned to Ireland on an overnight ferry.
Michael O’Leary generously posed for pictures, chatted with the public and shared his family’s joy with all during the walkabout of Grand National winner Rule The World in Mullingar recently.
Same street… different year!
Below is a photo of the 1955 English Grand National Winner ‘Quare Times’ being walked down the streets of Mullingar. Wonderful to see similar scenes for the 2016 winner ‘Rule The World’.
Westmeath people are well known for their love of horses and they really enjoyed this victory
