Midlands B & B
After a ten day tour of “must see” Ireland I felt a rest and a chance to see Ireland as the locals see it was in order. Lough Owel Lodge turned out to be the perfect base from which to do just that. First of all it is a B & B with the emphasis on breakfast. Our host, Aideen, happily served us everything from fresh fruit and hot cereal to pancakes and eggs to a full Irish breakfast; rashers of bacon, great sausages, black and white pudding, eggs, fresh scones and homemade jams. Aideen even went so far as to make a second batch of gooseberry jam since my wife enjoyed it so much. She also took us to a nearby conservation area that was so new that no signs for it had been put up.
Our room was equally nice. A mix of modern conveniences and country charm. A very comfortable bed and chairs for reading or just gazing out over the farm lands to the near by lake.
Although not a tourist area there was plenty to keep us occupied during our time there.
Breakfast was beautiful. So many treats to pick from. Everything was so tasty. Children adored their stay. Meeting the farm animals after breakfast and feeding the donkeys was a real highlight.
Aideen & Martin run a wonderful B&B in an idyllic location. The tea and scones on arrival were really welcome and the breakfast is on of the best I’ve ever had, great selection of delicious home made products.

We were welcomed warmly even without a reservation and were given a beautiful room with a grand antique poster bed. Lovely place to relax! Everything was very homely and convenient and we were really satisfied with our accommodation choice made on the road.
Delightful – great way to end our time in Ireland Thanks

The lovely owner, Aideen, made us feel so welcome, offering tea as soon as we arrived (which also came with homemade scones and jam). The breakfast was superb and set us up well for the day.

Best home-cooked meal I had in all of Ireland. Got a true taste of Irish culture in the city of Mullingar and at this lovely farmhouse B&B.

Lovely setting, quiet and friendly, wished we could have stayed longer. Great to be able to have an evening meal there too. Good value, comfortable.
Who needs claridges with the warm welcome and very tasty local food. If only we could have sampled all the different breads scones and jams and thats as well as a wonderful choice of fruit cereals, yogurts followed by a hot breakfast choice. The rooms are a good size with all the facilities that you need. Beautiful views across lough owel and we even swam in the lake.
We found this B&B using google search. The experience was just what you’d want, warm welcome, great tea and even greater scones, perfect bedroom and en suite, great walk through the cattle and donkeys in the adjacent field and in a few minutes to a very impressive lake Couldn’t be better, highly recommended!
Very friendly welcome & the food was excellent. Packed lunch (extra cost) was superb value for money & tailored to suit individual taste. Home baking-scrummy. Relaxing countryside & superb views.
