Fair daffodils we weep to see!

by Aideen on March 1, 2012

                                                                                      March the 1st

Is officially the beginning of spring  and today was a lovely sunny day if a little cold.

Everywhere on the farm there are signs of new life .

To Daffodils

BY ROBERT HERRICK

Fair Daffodils, we weep to see
         You haste away so soon;
As yet the early-rising sun
         Has not attain’d his noon.
                        Stay, stay,
                Until the hasting day
     Has run

                But to the even-song;
And, having pray’d together, we
Will go with you along.
We have short time to stay, as you,
         We have as short a spring;
As quick a growth to meet decay,
         As you, or anything.
                        We die
                As your hours do, and dry away
Like to the summer’s rain;

      Or as the pearls of morning’s dew,
                  Ne’er to be found again.

Yellow is the colour of friendship

Spring is in the air

St Brigid’s day

by Aideen on January 30, 2012

Failte,

Imbolc has been celebrated since ancient times, it’s a Cross Quarter Day, midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, this year it falls on the February 4th. The ancient Celts celebrated The Goddess Brigid at Imbolc which in Christian times became St. Brigid’s Day. At the Mound of the Hostages on the Hill of Tara the rising sun at Imbolc and Samhain illuminates the chamber. With the conservation works at the Mound of the Hostages I don’t think it will be possible to get near the entrance this Imbolc.

Best Imbolc Wishes,

just down the road from Lough Owel Lodge at cullion Mullingar there is an ancient spring , traditionally associated with Saint Brigid. A path of stones representing the Stations of the Cross leads to a small stone beehive chapel.The water has healing power and many people visit the area.

   A pet day. The lovely colours of autumn on the avenue are there to enjoy. However it does signal the winter ahead and the clean up that is needed.       Now is a good chance to cut some holly and put it in a bucket of water and it should last until the [...]

February Thankfully spring was not far behind and soon the signs of growth were to be seen and enjoyed. The first [...]
